South Hadley’s Annual Town Election is Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
Polls will be open from 7am to 8pm at South Hadley High School, 156 Newton Street for in-person voting for all precincts.
For anyone considering running for a local office, nomination papers are now available for at the Town Clerk’s office (Rm M11) in South Hadley Town Hall, 116 Main Street.
The last day to obtain nomination papers is Friday, February 20, 2026. All signed papers must be submitted to the Clerk’s Office by Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 5pm. To be on the ballot, candidates for townwide offices must submit a minimum of 50 signatures from South Hadley registered voters (obtaining extras is highly recommended to be sure the required 50 can be certified); for Town Meeting members, a minimum of 10 certified signatures from voters in your precinct (plus extras just in case) are needed.
Know Your Town will host a nomination papers signing event this winter for local voters to come meet candidates and sign papers, if they wish (signing a nomination paper helps promote the democratic process by which people run for office, but does not obligate the signer to vote for the candidate). Those with nomination papers can also obtain signatures from neighbors, and at board/committee meetings, and other public spaces.
Running for election as a Town Meeting Member is a good starting point for residents wishing to be more involved in and to better understand Town affairs. Town Meeting is the local legislative session that votes on our policies and budget, so members learn a great deal about how our town works and its finances. There are a total of 120 elected Town Meeting Members, 24 for each of South Hadley’s five precincts. Members serve staggered 3-year terms, with eight seats on the ballot every year in each precinct.
